I grew up in the Bay Area and attended Oakland’s public schools.  Both of my parents are Cal alums who instilled in me a passion for public education. So when I was offered the opportunity to work with the No. 1 public university in the world, I seized it.

I believe to navigate the challenging financial times we face, improved financial management will enable Berkeley to make strategic financial decisions in support of Access and Excellence. I am proud that Berkeley was the first public institution to provide needs-based financial aid through the Middle Class Access Plan (MCAP).  MCAP is one such example of what we can do when we have a clearer picture of revenue streams and our projected costs of new and existing programs.  I encourage you to review our 2010–11 Financial Reportthat presents financial strategies which are critical to our success.

Along with my CFO team, I look forward to working with you to build the financial management capacity that will ensure Berkeley continues to make history.
